Rum Brook Immortal Prince June 20, 1999 - December 12, 2008
Life is so fleeting. Please enjoy every thrilling moment you have with your equine companion. The little things like the sweetness of his breath on yours, the beauty of his shiny coat, the softness of his muzzle. Appreciate also each of your loved ones, not just in this holiday season, but all year. Guard your precious friendships too, and enjoy your own health and physical abilities whatever they are. Each day is a precious gift. My heart is broken. I have lost my dear friend, my buddy, my partner, my darling Prince. We did so much together. Not just in the show ring, but at home, on the trails, and simply enjoying quiet moments. He was only 9 years old, and we had so many plans. So many things yet to do. Although this grief is overwhelming right now, I still thank this wonderful creature for all he gave me. The companionship, the joy, the excitement, the laughs, the thrills, the successes, the moments that took my breath away and which I will never forget. He gave me his best. And, he helped me know and appreciate good friends like you. Friends who understand how terrible, how deep, how overwhelming this grief is. Answers are pending results of pathology workup at OSU's veterinary school. We only know it was swelling in the brain, as he lost facial muscle control, eyesight and then coordination. But we don't know what caused the swelling. It happened quickly, and there was just too little time while his doctors worked over him and tried every possible treatment. At midnight on December 12th his loyal heart stopped beating. Bob and I have been touched and awed by the love that has come to us from so many understanding friends across the country. Thank you. Although the time was so very much shorter than I wanted, I was lucky to have had my Prince Charming. May there be a Prince in each of your lives. Shelley |
